Newington Village Football Club

Opening fixtures are out

Wouldn't you know it, by either a quirk of fate, or some perverse of sense of humour on the part of the league, we have been drawn to play away to Cliffe Woods Colts in our opening fixture of the new season, on September 7th!

Knowing Newington's notoriously slow starts to the season this could have been a problem, but hopefully with the training that has been done throughout the close season and the series of friendlies leading up to the opening game Newington should be ready!

Participation wanted!

Well, I would like to think that I am not just maintaining this web-site for my own benefit... it would be nice to believe that the players and visitors are getting something out of this.

With that in mind I have added a couple more sections to the site that allow individuals to give something back. We now have a Forum on line for players, fans and general visitors to air their views... keep it clean though, please.

Also, along with the Forum there is a guestbook, where those that don't want to actually sign up to the forums can leave a brief message - I see that David Beckham has visited in the past!

There is also a photo gallery, where I will be posting some of the best (and worst) shots of the players throughout the season - there is space here to leave your comments on any photos, but again all I ask is that you keep it clean.

Finally I have added a Calendar to the site, which should give an overview of what is happening each month.

Well, that's it for now. Hope you enjoy and make the most of the site.

Yours in sport.

Ian

Club funds

It is apparent, listening to players talk, that there is a misunderstanding with regards to how much it actually costs to run Newington Village as a football club, and that we should be awash with money.

With that in mind I would like to put a few figures down for you, so everyone can see the true cost of running the club. These figures are based on us playing 28 league and cup games last season, 15 of which were at home.

EXPENDITURE (2007/08)

  £
 Pitch 850*
 Referee fees 375
 Laundry 145
 League Fees 174**
 KCFA Fees 121
 Signing on Fees 112
 Trophies 190
 Presentation Night 100
Kit / Balls / First Aid, etc 140
 Total expenditure 2207

* includes hire of pitches for friendlies

** includes entry to League 5-a-side

INCOME (2007/08)

  £
 Signing on fees* 300
 Subs**1400
 Presentation Night 160
 Donation 500
 Total income 2360

* based on 15 players paying the £20 signing on fee.

** based on 28 games x £50.

So, as you can see, based on last years' figures we should have made a massive profit of £153... unfortunately this doesn't allow for the incredible £524 we accrued in fines last season, not all of which we managed to claw back from players. This also works on the premise that all players pay their subs every week... now be honest, we know that doesn't always happen, does it?

So, if anyone has any ideas how we can make the club more profitable I am open to suggestions.
