Newington Village Football Club

Tournaments

Newington Village FC competed in two tournaments during the close season, with mixed success.

In the Milton FC 5 a side they were drawn in what looked a tough group, and with only one team scheduled to go through from each group it looked like they had their work cut out to qualify.

As it turned out the organisers had a change of heart and changed the qualifying standard to the top 2 teams from each group, which gave Newington added incentive to perform well in their early matches. The results went as follows:

 Dore Silver - won - 1-0

Woodcombe - won - 2-0

Park Regis - drew - 1-1

Aylesford WMCA - lost 0-1

Cliffe Woods A - won - 1-0

The 3 wins and a draw was enough to give Newington second spot the group and a last 16 tie against Sittingbourne side Teague's Tigers...

This was to prove a disaster for all concerned, as after early promise Newington found themselves trailing by 3 goals to nil, when a touch of handbags spilled over with Teague's supporters running onto the pitch to get in amongst the action.

The organisers immediately expelled both teams from the competition, a little harsh on Newington, but it would have been hard to have put Newington through while trailing 3-0 with only a minute of play remaining.

Next up came the Medway Messenger 7 a side... again, it looked like Newington had a good team on paper, but unfortunately they just didn't perform, on what was probably one of the hottest days of the year.

The results went as follows:

Deanview 95 - won - 3-1

Huntsman - lost - 1-0

Rainham Athletic - lost - 0-3
